Private charter

A private charter gives you complete flexibility — your own aircraft, your own schedule, and direct flights between any two airstrips in Kenya without routing through Nairobi. For groups of 4 or more, it often works out comparable to or cheaper than scheduled flights per person. All prices below are per aircraft — divide by your group size for the per-person cost.

What Private Charter Includes

A dedicated aircraft for your group (typically a Cessna 208 Caravan for 8–12 pax, or a smaller Cessna 182 for 3–4 pax), departure at your chosen time, direct routing between your chosen airstrips, and bags loaded directly into the hold without weight drama if you're chartering the whole plane.

Charter is particularly well-suited to multi-park circuits — flying Nairobi → Amboseli → Tsavo → Mara in one trip without returning to Nairobi between stops, or a bush-to-beach transfer flying Mara directly to Diani or Lamu.

Aircraft Types

Cessna 208 Grand Caravan — the workhorse of Kenya's bush aviation. Seats up to 12 passengers, good luggage capacity, comfortable for 60–90 minute flights. Most common charter aircraft.

Cessna 182 / 206 — smaller 3–5 seat aircraft. Lower hourly rate but less space. Good for couples or small groups on shorter hops.

Beechcraft King Air — pressurised twin-engine for longer routes or higher comfort. Available through premium charter operators.

  • For groups of 4+, charter is often comparable to scheduled flights per person
  • You set the departure time — no waiting for airline schedules
  • Multi-park circuits (e.g. Mara → Amboseli → Diani) in one day are possible by charter

Luggage rules
  • 15kg (33lbs) maximum per person on all bush flights
  • Soft bags only — no hard suitcases
  • Most hotels in Nairobi store excess luggage for free
  • Carry-on: small daypack only
  • Larger luggage allowances on full charter
